Tanner City Fencers Club is led by Jane Hall Carter and James Carter, a team of highly accomplished fencers and coaches who donate their time each week to advance the sport of fencing.

The Club has a very positive energetic and casual atmosphere and, in the spirit of true sportsmanship, everyone pitches in to help wherever needed.

Within its unassuming surroundings, however, the club has produced innumerable US National Fencing Team champions, Pan-American Games athletes, U.S. Olympic team members and medalists, USA Fencing and NCAA athletes.
Maitre Joe Pechinsky

Our Founder:

The Tanner City Fencers Club was founded in 1958 by Peabody firefighter Joe Pechinsky. Through the years, Joe offered fencing instruction to thousands of students in an elementary school gymnasium with unparalleled success, and little thought to compensation. Numerous students of Maître Pechinsky fenced to local, national, and international success, including several students who represented the United States in the Olympic games. From 1968 through 1992, every U.S. Olympic Fencing Team included at least one member trained by Joe. Additionally, several current fencing clubs in the United States trace their roots to Joe's instruction. Maître Pechinsky was inducted into the U.S. Fencing Association Hall of Fame in 1996.
